Screenshot this estimate and attach it to your hardship statement. Judges respond when you show the full financial hit—including insurance.
How ClerkHero turns a scary ticket into a manageable project
California uses stealth multipliers that quadruple the "base fine" printed on your citation. We reverse-engineered those multipliers from court schedules in all 58 counties, then fused them with 12,000+ tickets fought through ClerkHero. That data powers the calculator—and your defense.
Penalty assessments compound fast
Every $100 of base fine blossoms into $380–$430 of final cost once state and county assessments stack. That is why we recommend disputing any ticket over 15 mph.
Insurance is the silent budget killer
A single 1-point ticket raises premiums roughly 20–25% for three years. If you are already carrying one point, the next citation can double that.
Speeding in zones triggers multipliers
School zones and construction areas carry 15–25% heavier fines. Courts justify this by citing safety funds—our calculator layers that in automatically.
Trial by Written Declaration works
Sending a written defense by mail keeps you off the court calendar and forces the officer to respond. If they do not, the ticket is dismissed and the points vanish.
California speeding ticket FAQ
Where do these fine estimates come from?
We combine the statutory base fines from California Vehicle Code 22349/22350 with statewide penalty assessments, court operations fees ($40), conviction assessments ($35), emergency medical services surcharges, and county-specific multipliers taken from public court schedules. Values are averaged to reflect 2024–2025 assessments.
How accurate is this calculator?
Every court clerk rounds differently, so think of the totals as a 10% band. Counties like Los Angeles, Orange, and Santa Clara often sit at the high end, while rural counties trend lower. The calculator mirrors what we see in thousands of tickets processed through ClerkHero.
Does traffic school reduce the amount shown?
Traffic school keeps points off your DMV record, which can prevent the insurance increase. The court will still collect the fine plus a traffic school administration fee (usually $64–$80) not shown here.
Can ClerkHero actually fight my ticket?
Yes. We prepare your Trial by Written Declaration defense kit with personalized arguments, evidence checklists, and filing instructions so you can dispute the ticket by mail without hiring a lawyer.
